Making the first million..pt 1

Here are a few inspirational stories from people whay have made themselves millionaires; some from less conventional means..

1. Singer gets ‘run over by a reindeer’

‘I put my money where my mouth is’

Elmo Shropshire had a day job as a veterinarian in Marin County, Calif., and a side gig as a bluegrass singer when he recorded the holiday song that put him on the map — and put his vet business out to pasture. The song, “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer,” has sold 10 million copies, inspired a music video and a movie, and made Shropshire a millionaire five times over.

Call for calorie information on menus

Cafes, pubs and restaurants have been urged to display nutritional information on their menus by a food watchdog.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said it was in talks with 50 of the biggest food chains about the move – with several already signed up.

Officials are hoping calorie labelling will start in the summer.

The call comes after surveys showed the public wanted more information about the food they buy.

In June, an FSA poll of 2,000 people found 85% were in favour of catering outlets displaying nutritional data.

The best way to lose weight – Set achievable goals

When thinking about losing weight, define what your real goals are.  Do you really want to weigh less, or do you actually want to feel more confident, be fitter, or look good in certain clothes?  You may find that adopting a healthier lifestyle and increasing your exercise doesn’t actually change the figures on the scales, but that you have more energy, have less body fat and start to look more toned and firm.  Set positive goals, rather than just wishing there was less of you.  This really is the best way for you to lose weight and maintain that weight loss.

more money saving tips

Here are another three money saving ideas and one money making one. I practice what I preach here, I’m a  guitar teacher!

1. Cancel your gym membership

If you pay your £40 a month by direct debit and you use the gym three times a week, great. If not, cancel your membership immediately. You’ll soon save enough to buy your own bike and, if you’re so inclined, a rowing machine. Consider running home from work three times a week. It’s free.

3 more money saving tips

Here are 3 more money saving tips I have picked up recently. The first two have a bit of a pyschological edge to them; how much stuff do we really need? why are we spending? The third is a little bit of common sense…

1. Ask yourself: do I really need this?

Imagine this. It’s lunchtime and you’ve got an hour to kill. You find yourself in a department store and there’s a sale on. You pick up a beautifully packaged selection of barbecue tools and associated garden paraphernalia. And it’s half price. Now, stop! Ask yourself: Do I really need this? Exactly. Now, put it down and walk away.

Are women less physically active?

Women are less physically active at both ends of life than men, two new studies suggest.

Researchers studied activity levels in school children and the over 70s – and in both cases found males tended to be more active.

The studies are being presented at the UK Society for Behavioural Medicine annual conference.

A study from John Moores University in Liverpool found that girls aged 10 and 11 participate in 6% less vigorous activity at playtime compared to boys of the same age. Girls were more likely to spend time in smaller groups playing verbal games, conversing and socialising. Boys, however, were more likely to play in larger groups. playing more active games such as football.

Paul McKenna: I Can Make You Thin US airs in UK

LIVING presents the UK premiere of Paul McKenna’s brand new show, which was filmed in the US. The statement ‘I Can Make You Thin’ has to be one of the most effective, attention-grabbing titles ever given to a TV programme. And it comes from probably the biggest name in hypnotism and self-help.

I Can Make You Thin aims to help people lose weight by encouraging viewers to follow four simple rules, which Paul insists can work for anyone who isn’t happy with the way they look and feel.

“Only 6% of people realise being fat isn’t healthy”

I heard this amazing statistic on the news today.

Chief Medical Officer Sir Liam Donaldson said only 6% of people understood the health risks of being overweight.

“Many people see fat as a vanity issue rather than a health issue and they need to see it as a health issue.”

What?

Now I can understand people (myself included) being overweight and not being happy about it, but do people really think there are no health issues related to being fat? Talk about burying your head in the sand!
